-
Blood pressure refers to the force exerted by
circulating
blood
on the walls of
blood vessels,
and constitutes one of the principal
vital signs.
-
There are two ways to record one’s blood pressure.
The invasive and the auscultatory method.
-
The auscultatory method uses a
stethoscope
and a
sphygmomanometer
and is less unpleasant. There is, however, the issue of accuracy,
which is compromised.
-
Invasive arterial blood pressure involves
measurement with intravascular cannulas and direct measurement of
arterial pressure by placing a needle in an artery.
-
Normal systolic blood pressure must be below
120mmHg. Normal diastolic blood pressure should be below 80mmHg.
-
You should measure your blood pressure immediately
after waking, because your body is at rest during this period.
-
High blood pressure can lead to cardiac arrest and
strokes and can lower your lifespan.
-
Try relaxation techniques such as meditation when
you are stressed. There are pills one can take to reduce blood
pressure. Talk to your doctor or to a therapist if you feel that
you are at risk. Avoid stressful situations as best as you can.
